A few years back when The Jam Session was in its infancy, Bigfoot & I had the pleasure of bringing in Luck One to the studio to talk about his project at the time 'Beautiful Music'. Luck soon became one of my favorite Portland MC's; the strength of his delivery and the emotion in his story telling unparalleled by any other local artist.
That summer Luck One would perform at Portland's premier summer all-ages festival; PDX POP NOW. Easily the best hiphop act on a bill full of local indie rock bands, PDX POP NOW allowed Luck to demonstrate his diverse appeal. As I was shooting photos and covering the festival for KPSU, watching Luck rock the outdoor stage with a crowd full of enthusiastic Portland-ers, I remember thinking "This is the MC Portland needs".....
Years later and few albums deep, Luck One is still one of my favorite Portland MC's. Luck dropped by KPSU studios a few months back to catch up on all the upcoming projects and drop a fresh, new free style for our listeners. We chatted about the state of the hiphop game here in Portland, and at the time, Luck seemed to hint to some of the feelings expressed in his current single 'Farewell'. An honest, heartfelt song dedicated to those Portland-ers who have ever so faithfully supported Luck throughout the years, "Farewell" seems to suggest Luck's desire to step away from the hiphop game; "I'm wise enough to start the saving before the stack's blown, my city love me they hold me down at my rap shows, but I be fighting demons from previous lives and past souls....since I know you balancing every syllable, just thought id visit to issue you with a farewell"
This video for "Farewell" successfully sums up everything Luck One has brought to the Rose City. From an MC who has always put it on for his city, 'Farewell' is everything you'd hope to get from Luck, yet oh so bittersweet as we see one of this city's finest announce his upcoming departure.
Ness Lee just dropped a brand new video comin' at Loaded Lux titled 'Lord Knows'
'Lord Knows' is in response to the Loaded Lux song 'True or False' feat. Murda Mook in which several bars reflect general hate towards southern hiphop which prompted Ness to rise to the occasion to once again put the south on his back "The irony of it is your folks heard me & love me, Southern but hiphop's been inside me, so when you dis the whole south you dis the shit that I bring"
